Port Jervis police are warning residents about illegitimate mailers sent to their homes, to donate to the police department or to enter to win a prize.
Police say that officers will either ask for donations in-person or by mailers sent directly from the department.
Never through a third-party or on the phone, via email, or any other electronic communication. If a mailer doesn't have the police department address as the return address, please call the department.
If you get a suspicious inquiry, call the police department to verify if it's them.
