New vaccination sites are popping up all across the Hudson Valley - from churches in Mount Vernon and Poughkeepsie to the MLK Center in Spring Valley.

Velma McKenzie-Orr says she battled coronavirus and has lived to tell the tale, and now on Thursday, she'll be able to rid her virus fears once and for all.

She will be one of 500 seniors in Mount Vernon expected to get the Pfizer COVID-19 over the next two days at a special pop-up clinic sponsored by the Grace Baptist Church and the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center.

The pop-up is part of a state-run program championed by Rev. Franklyn Richardson aimed at getting people in minority communities to access the shot.

According to research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are major racial disparities nationwide over who can get access to the vaccines with members of minority communities lagging way behind.

Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson Howard says it's time to turn the tide on the racial disparities, and that the pop-up clinic is a step in the right direction.
