Newburgh man indicted, accused of taking 13-year-old across state lines for sex

U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss says Vernon Copeland III, 36, transported the girl from Bridgeport, Connecticut to Newburgh last February.

A Newburgh man has been indicted after authorities say he took a 13-year-old girl across state lines with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss says Vernon Copeland III, 36, transported the girl from Bridgeport, Connecticut to Newburgh last February.
Copeland was arrested on Aug. 3 in Tampa, Florida. 
He will be transported to the Southern District of New York for arraignment and prosecution. If convicted, he faces 10 years to life behind bars.
