Newburgh Free Academy reopened Tuesday following a possibly gang-related fatal stabbing of a student.
All the schools in the district were closed Friday as a precaution after Newburgh Free Academy senior Levy King Flores, 17, was stabbed to death last week. A 13-year-old boy was charged in Flores' murder.
Police have increased their presence at the high school and on city streets, and students say they have noticed tighter security.
While the district had received reports of several fights last week in the aftermath of Flores' slaying, officials say things went smoothly Tuesday.
School officials say police officers will remain at the high school until further notice.
