New Jersey residents are being advised to take the proper precautions during the summer-like temperatures this weekend.

The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is calling for temperatures in the 90s.

Temperatures are expected to be cooler by the shore, but much hotter inland.

The Trenton-Mercer County area is expected to be the hottest part of the state.

News 12 New Jersey reached out to Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora on what the city is doing to help residents beat the heat. He responded, "Summer month weather is arriving early. While our parks are open, our pools aren't ready to open yet. We'll have our library, Rec and senior centers open for respite from the heat. Watch for power surges from home cooling units."

Down the shore, Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island has a heat advisory in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday.

Residents who are thinking about heading to the shore are reminded that the ocean water temperature still be a cold 50 degrees, and lifeguards are not on duty yet.

In the wake of the 18-year-old man who died while digging a hole in Toms River earlier this week, residents are also being reminder not to dig holes deeper than the knees of the smallest member of their group to avoid the holes from collapsing.

Another option for residents who are looking to find relief from the heat is to take advantage of air conditioning at a local mall or library.
