A State Trooper involved in a fatal 2024 Sullivan County shooting will face no charges, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

As News 12 previously reported, Russell Peters shot 32-year-old Albert Melendez after a chase in Thompson.

Authorities say Melendez continued to drive despite commands to stop and struck Peters with his car before the shots were fired.

Melendez received emergency medical care but later died at Garnet Health Medical Center.

Bodycam footage of the incident was released by the Attorney General's Office.

The Attorney General's Office investigated the shooting as required by law.

They say prosecutors could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Peter's use of deadly force was unjustified.
