People in New Jersey saw signs at Costco locations earlier this week saying memberships would be required to buy gas.
That won't be the case in Rockland because of a law crafted in 1979.
Reports say it was created during the energy crisis when people tried to form gas clubs.
News 12 reached out to Costco for comment but has not heard back.
