Tuesday marked Giving Tuesday, a day when people are asked to remember and donate to nonprofits and charities for the work they do all year long.

At the United Way of Westchester and Putnam, officials say that while donations are up this year, they fear "donation fatigue" among those who can afford to give is setting in.

Tom Gabriel, the CEO of United Way of Westchester and Putnam, says many smaller charities and nonprofits are starting to feel it the most.

"The need is greater than ever," says Gabriel. "An upwards of a third of foundations are raising less but adversely effected by this crisis. An upwards of 70% of nonprofits have seen an increase in the demand for their services. If we are not supporting our nonprofits, who are the safety nets?"

As New York enters the third year of the pandemic, officials say it's important to know that many small nonprofits won't survive without your generosity.
