Ten years after a North Rockland High School student made headlines for his creative “promposal” to News 12’s Blaise Gomez, the pair reunited this weekend for another special event - bringing their story full circle.
Alirio Magaña, who was born with a disability and uses a wheelchair, first went viral in 2015 when he invited celebrity Ellen DeGeneres to his senior prom. When she was unable to accept, he turned to his favorite local reporter instead - and Blaise said yes.
A decade later, Alirio reached out to Blaise again, this time inviting her to his 10-year high school reunion Saturday night at the Patriot Lounge in Stony Point.
“The last time we went to prom together it was fun, so I wanted to have another night of fun with you,” Magaña said.
Blaise says she was touched to be included once again.
“I was happy to accept Alirio’s proposal a decade ago, and I thought it was so thoughtful of him to reach out again this time around,” said Gomez. “It was an honor to attend with him and see how far he’s come.”
Since graduation, Alirio has built an independent life for himself in New City and now works part-time for Jowonio, an organization that supports people with disabilities.
