Legislators in Albany voted in favor of a new law that was created in response to a Turn to Tara investigation into privacy concerns involving Amazon.
The bill, sponsored by state Sen. Kevin Thomas received near unanimous support from both sides of the aisle during the late afternoon vote on the Senate floor in Albany.
The Long Island Democrat created the legislation after News 12 senior reporter Tara Rosenblum exposed serious privacy and safety concerns with the Amazon Key for Business delivery system, which in some cases, was installed without permission and granted their drivers keyless access to apartment buildings.
The bill makes that practice illegal in New York.
The state Assembly passed the bill last week.
It now awaits Gov. Kathy Hochul's approval.
