A NYC firefighter from Palisades is facing charges Friday after police say he stole a fire truck in New Jersey and drove it drunk to a fire call.
According to police, 33-year-old Raymond O?Prey heard a fire call on his personal scanner at around 11:50 p.m. Thursday, broke into the Rockleigh fire house in New Jersey, stole a fire truck and drove three miles to the fire in Closter, NJ. Firefighters at the fire spotted the truck driving erratically and without headlights. O?Prey was the only one on the truck and wasn?t in uniform. O?Prey allegedly told police he wanted to help. Firefighters also grew suspicious because the Rockleigh Fire Department was not called to the fire.
O?Prey is not a member of the Rockleigh Fire Department. Police say he refused to take a Breathalyzer test. O?Prey is charged with DWI and burglary and is free on bail.
