The NYPD will be cracking down on bicycle riders citywide over the next two weeks as part of a new safety initiative.

Operation Safe Cycle hopes to reduce the amount violations that create dangerous conditions for bike riders and pedestrians. Officers will be looking out for riders ignoring red lights, disobeying traffic signs, riding in the streets and against traffic, and cutting off pedestrians at the crosswalk.

Police will also be making sure that drivers are not stopping, standing or parking in bicycle lanes.

Residents told News 12 that they have mixed feelings on the initiative, which runs through Aug. 26.
