The NYPD and the Bronx District Attorney’s Office are now taking the lead on a homicide investigation that started in Yonkers Monday and is now linked to body parts found inside a Longwood apartment.
According to police, a search warrant at 903 Rogers Place in the Bronx led them to finding a gun, drug equipment and human remains inside of a kitchen and bedroom late Monday night.
Investigators say this could be connected to the charred body found inside of a shopping cart by Yonkers police while responding to reports of a fire on a sidewalk Monday morning. When authorities arrived at the scene near the Oak Street Bridge to put those flames out, police say they found the body.
According to Yonkers police, their city may have merely been the “dump site” for the body. A spokesperson from the NYPD told News 12 that the Bronx homicide squad and the 41st Precinct are investigating the incident.
News 12 has obtained multiple surveillance videos of two possible suspects with a cart leaving Rogers Place late Monday night.
The identity of the victim is still unknown and medical examiners have not released the official cause of death.
