Brooklyn mother accused of throwing children from window faces attempted murder charges
A 24-year-old mother has been charged for allegedly throwing her 4-week-old girl and a 2-year-old boy from a second-floor window of a Brooklyn apartment building.
Dejhanay Jarrell apparently jumped out the window herself after throwing the two young children, police say.
The incident occurred at 178 Rockaway Parkway.
NYPD officials say the two children were found unconscious and unresponsive.
News 12 is told the girl is in critical condition at Maimonides Medical Center. The boy and Jarrell were last listed in stable condition at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center.
Jarrell faces charges including attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17.
The man who made that 911 call to police says he's not happy about the suspect's arrest.
“I'm not in agreement with that because like I said, this young lady needs medical help.” Jarrell’s neighbor said. “She is mentally sick. You don't put mentally sick people in jail. You don't charge mentally sick people.”
The Administration for Children's Services released a statement saying it has taken action "to secure the safety of the children in this home."
