A Washingtonville police officer died in a wrong-way crash that also injured his wife on Route 17 East.

The incident occurred Saturday when a man crossed the center median and struck Jose Santiago's car, police said.

Santiago, 65, was off-duty at the time and pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was taken to Garnet Medical Center and is in stable condition. The other driver sustained minor injuries.

No charges have been reported at this time. The Washingtonville Police Department said it will share funeral service details once arrangements are finalized.
