The Bergen County mega COVID-19 vaccine site at the old Meadowlands racetrack had to close on Tuesday because of a shortage of doses.
The Gloucester County site at Rowan College of South Jersey was also closed Monday for the same reason.
Over 565,000 doses of the vaccine have been distributed in the state, and many people who are eligible to receive the vaccine are having difficulties finding an available appointment. Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli says the federal government isn't providing enough vaccines.
“We continue to have a tremendous imbalance between the demand for the vaccine and the supply of the actual vaccine,” says Persichilli. “We do know that more vaccines will arrive in the coming days and months. Although allocations to sites may vary each week, our goal is to provide as much predictability and steady supply as possible, but we must continue to balance efficiency and equity in this time of scarcity.”
State Police Col. Pat Callahan says today's weather could cause some more disruptions.
He says anyone with an appointment will be notified six hours ahead of any planned closures because of the weather.
