About 50,000 drivers illegally pass school buses every day in New York, according to state officials.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is urging drivers to stop for school buses with flashing lights.

Children ages 4 to 8 are most at risk of school bus fatalities, according to the Education Department.

Passing a stopped school bus picking up or dropping off passengers brings penalties.

Fines start at $250 and can include up to 180 days in jail, depending on the number of offenses.
