Officials: ANCHOR program benefits website to remain down until Thursday morning
The website for New Jersey residents to check on the status of their ANCHOR program benefits is expected to remain down for one more day. Officials say it is expected to become available on Thursday at 7 a.m.
The website has been down for about a week as the Division of Taxation “worked to investigate suspected fraud in a number of accounts,” according to a spokesperson for the state Treasury.
“The Division’s rigorous process of identifying and acting to prevent potential fraudulent activity led to some taxpayers experiencing a ‘reversal’ of their direct deposit benefit, meaning the payment was diverted back to the Division while the account was investigated. At this time, the Division has successfully verified all legitimate taxpayers impacted by this reversal, and all legitimate taxpayers will be issued a paper check immediately,” the spokesperson stated.
The New Jersey Department of Treasury says that more than 900,000 benefits sent via direct deposit were scheduled to hit bank accounts on Oct. 10. The department also says that about 100,000 checks were mailed out on Oct. 11.
“Payments will be distributed on a rolling basis until all eligible applicants receive their benefit,” a spokesperson for the department previously wrote in a statement.
Once the website returns, applicants can check the status of their benefits HERE.
