Several towns in northern Westchester were to restrict how much water they're using.
Somers, Yorktown, Cortlandt, the Montrose Improvement District and Buchanan are the communities affected. They were asked to restrict water usage starting Monday. The restriction lasts into October.
Instead of being able to water the lawn or garden every day, residents are now being asked to do so every other day. Addresses with odd numbers will be permitted to use water on odd-numbered days and same for even numbers.
The water restriction does not include showering, dishwashing, laundry and cooking.
Officials say the reason for the water restriction is due to maintenance work at a treatment plant.
