The Westchester County Health Department is warning residents to stay away from the Hudson River Sunday as the county does necessary and dangerous emergency work.

Officials say they need to dump several million gallons of chlorinated raw sewage into the Hudson in order to repair a sewer line. The dumping will be done between midnight and 4 a.m. Sunday. Residents from Tarrytown to the Bronx are being warned to avoid direct contact with the water.

Officials say they tried to fix the pipe back in October, but the repair didn't take. To avoid another major spill like the one two years ago, they say the repairs are vital. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation agreed and issued an emergency permit for the work to be completed.

Officials have notified local police departments, marinas and media outlets, but are still asking for the public's help to spread the word. By Monday, officials say the sewage will dissipate into the Hudson?s tides and currents and the warning will be lifted.
