Organizers of the Empire State Games announced today the cancellation of the sporting event indefinitely.
The regional director for the games, Frank Intervallo, says the games have been canceled for next year due to state budget cuts.
Intervallo estimates the games cost the state about $2 million, but he says it was also seeing an increase in private donations.
He says while it is possible that Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) could find a way to bring it back for 2012, it is not looking good.
