A two-car crash left one person dead and another injured Tuesday evening in Amenia.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on South Amenia Road near Benson Road.

Authorities say 54-year-old Scott Anderson, of Amenia, was driving eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle.

Investigators say his car crossed into the opposing lane, where it collided with a westbound Honda.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Vassar Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the crash appears to be the result of unsafe speed on the part of Anderson’s vehicle.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
