Today marks one year since the devastating fire at a multifamily home in Spring Valley that left five people dead.
The fire broke out before dawn at 118 Lake St. on Saturday, March 4 of 2023. Rockland County firefighters determined that a faulty electrical outlet was the likely cause of the blaze.
Tragically, five people, including two minors, lost their lives in the fire.
Following the incident, the Rockland County Office of Buildings and Codes conducted inspections and found over 400 violations at this home and the landlord's eight other properties. These violations included electrical issues and missing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
The anniversary comes as Spring Valley has experienced three more apartment building fires over the past month.
