An Orange County EMT who lost her arm in a car crash in West Nyack returned home Tuesday after months of rehabilitation.

Bonnie Ames, 21, has been hospitalized since the on-the-job accident that left her critically injured. On April 14, she was riding in her ambulance when her vehicle veered off the road along Route 59, colliding with a flat-bed truck that sheared off the right side of the ambulance.

Ames? right arm was so severely mangled that it had to be amputated. Since May, she has been recovering at a rehabilitation facility in West Orange, New Jersey. Against all odds, she managed to regain some upper body strength and got off the feeding tube and ventilator.

On Tuesday, Ames, accompanied by friends and family, left the facility and moved into her new apartment in Middletown.

The young woman, who currently remains wheelchair-bound, says she intends to walk down the aisle when she ties the knot with her fiancé, David Robertson, on May 21, 2010.

?I'm determined to walk,? Ames says. ?That's why I'm fighting so hard.?
