Orange County's district attorney announced a prison sentence in a Newburgh commercial bus stabbing.
Maleek Philips, 38, faces 10 years in prison and five years post-release supervision after he pled guilty in January to attempted assault in the first degree.
The knife attack happened on Aug. 26, 2022 while Philips was a passenger traveling from Albany to New York City.
Police say when the bus traveled through the Town of Newburgh on Interstate 87, Phillips began threatening passengers on the bus. He then pulled out a knife and cut one victim on the neck and chest, causing a collapsed lung.
Phillips fled the bus and cut his own throat before he was located nearby by police.
