Officials in Orange County are working to increase awareness and safeguard the public with its terrorism prevention program.
Officials have set up a program with community involvement called Operation Safeguard. The year-old program has police reaching out to several businesses informing owners of potential terrorist behavior. At a New Windsor storage facility, police gave the manager a checklist of items to look for when people come to store personal items.
Police say most business owners have their own standard set of security and safety regulations that they have enforced after 9/11. However, officials hope the reminders they give to owners will keep them alert and more observant to suspicious activity.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is urged to call the New York State Tips Line at 866-SAFE-NYS.
