Several sites in Orange County, including West Point and Stewart Air National Guard Base, have been proposed by a New York City community group as alternatives to hold the Sept. 11 terrorist trials.
The list submitted for consideration to Attorney General Eric Holder also includes the White Plains Federal Court House and the Bureau of Prisons complex in Otisville.
Officials from the Orange County Sheriff's Office say they oppose the trials moving from Lower Manhattan to the Hudson Valley, citing concerns over costs, traffic and safety.
State Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt says if the federal government is determined to hold the trial in New York, it should pay for security.
