More than two dozen people, most of them grandmothers, gathered at Ossining’s Market Square Friday holding signs that read “Release all hostages” and “Choose Humanity.”

“I think as grandmothers we're looking at the future, we're looking at the world and are very concerned about the loss of life,” said Ann Loretan, Ossining resident and one of the organizers of the event.

Loretan and a group of grandmothers organized a group called Ossining Grandmas for Peace.

They held a silent vigil calling for peace, a complete cease fire in Gaza and the release of all hostages held by Hamas.

“We really are not taking any political side, even though we might have some... of our own. We are really for peace. Life is valuable and we just don’t want any more loss of life,” Patricia Richards, Ossining.

The group also gathered signatures for a letter than plan to send to their representative, Mike Lawler.

They are urging him to call for a complete cease fire in order to save innocent lives.

Nate Soule, spokesperson for Rep. Lawler, released this statement in response to News 12's request for comment.

“There cannot be a sustained ceasefire in Gaza until Hamas, a terrorist organization whose sworn mission is to destroy Israel, has been eliminated."
