Hundreds of people across the Hudson Valley walked to end Alzheimer's this weekend.
The annual Alzheimer's Association Walk is the largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
Sunday's event raised over $500,000.
"My mother wasn't the only one, my grandmother, and my great grandmother also suffered from Alzheimer's you know we called it then senility. But now we know it was Alzheimer's and now finally we're seeing that there are possibilities out there, and it's very heartening and there's a purple flower and then there's a white flower for the first survivor of Alzheimer's and I have a feeling we're going to see that survivor soon," says Sydney Shlmer, board member.
Over six million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. Between 2000 and 2019, deaths from Alzheimer's have more than doubled.
The Alzheimer's Association has been around and raising money since 1980, for prevention, treatment and ultimately finding a cure.
