St. Patrick's Day celebrations already taking place throughout the Hudson Valley and Yonkers now look a little greener.
Local officials gathered in front of the Aisling Irish Center to paint the green line on McLean Avenue Tuesday in preparation for this weekend's St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The green line goes all the way down the parade route, which kicks off this Saturday at 1 p.m. "We're kicking off what we're going to be doing on Saturday. So, there's a great sense of celebration. We've painted the street green. It's called the Emerald Mile," says Brendan Fitzgerald, parade grand marshal.
The tradition of painting the Emerald Mile in Yonkers goes back all the way to 1956 - the same year the city had its very first St. Patrick's Day Parade.
