Some parents are throwing their support behind the Lakeland school district that has been accused by some parents of placing too much emphasis on race.
The Lakeland Central School District is addressing issues of equity by forming an advisory team that will make recommendations to the school board.
The district says the goal is to become more inclusive, but some parents feel that changes are happening without their input.
News 12 spoke to a parent who sits on that advisory team.
"The goal is to not just assume the district is doing something wrong. The first step is to look at what we are doing and to see how we can make it better," says parent Vincent Xavier.
