Parents urge state DOE to handle issues disrupting learning in East Ramapo Central School District

A group of Rockland County parents is calling on the state Education Department to step in over a series of issues impacting their kids' education.
The East Ramapo Central School District closed Spring Valley High School following the discovery of mold and asbestos inside the building.
The school was forced to return to online learning for the rest of the year with hopes to reopen the building in January.
The school year already started off shaky after thousands of students were either late or missed school because the district didn't have enough bus drivers.
On Tuesday night, there was an intense Board of Education meeting over these issues.
"The building was not shut down to upset anyone,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Clarence Ellis. “The building was shut down because it was the safest thing to do, and that's where we are right now."
News 12 is told the state Education Department is aware of the situation at the Spring Valley High School and is working with the district so that an emergency facilities project can begin
