Get set to pay a little more at the pump as New York state's gas tax suspension is set to expire on Jan. 1.

Reports from earlier this month indicate Gov. Kathy Hochul won't be extending the six-month long tax break.

There have been efforts by state legislators, including a handful from the Hudson Valley, trying to keep the state gas tax suspension running longer.

Back in June, the state believed their move could save drivers at least 16 cents per gallon statewide, that's not including the counties who implemented their own gas tax pause.

While most of the counties in our area put in place their own relief, many have seen their gas tax pause already expire, or will also expire Jan. 1.

Rockland County's runs through February.

Without the tax break, drivers need to prepare for paying more at the pump. "I think it's going to make it harder on consumers, the people who drive and take their cars for work," says Dan Malev, of White Plains.
