Citizens of Sullivan County are being alerted to a phone scam.

According to the county sheriff's office, residents are receiving calls from an individual identifying themselves as "Officer Johnson," claiming to be from the sheriff's office.

The caller informs the victim that a warrant has been issued for their arrest due to failure to report for jury duty.

They then proceed to suggest that the victim can avoid arrest by paying a fine over the phone. Sheriff Mike Schiff emphasizes that fines are never paid over the phone for any reason. All jury duty information will be sent via mail. If you receive such a call and live in Sullivan County, hang up and contact the Sheriff's Office at (845) 794-7100.
