Preliminary plans are in the works to restore a World War II memorial in Van Cortlandt Park that many say has been neglected and left in disrepair.
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx) said he recently met with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to discuss the Memorial Grove restoration.
Dinowitz estimates the project will cost $250,000. Dinowitz says the department needs to level the ground, plant grass and fix the plaques on the ground that bear the names of veterans.
The Parks Department says the project looks promising. It says it?s waiting for Dinowitz to raise more funds for improvements.
Dinowitz says he has faith Memorial Grove will be restored but he says the mayor and the city need to get involved to allocate money to the project.
