News 12 is learning new details about a crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway that ended in a massive manhunt.
It happened around 1 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes near Lincoln Avenue and Purchase Street.
Police say a blue Mercedes-Benz got into an accident with another vehicle. The driver of the Mercedes is accused of getting out of their car and running away.
Officers searched the area for hours, but the driver wasn't found.
"It has been pretty crazy, it's usually very quiet. Tons of cops asking us if we have seen a man running around," says Teddy Mitchell, who was working in the area.
The investigation led to the temporary lockout of the Blind Brook School District. The lockout has since been lifted. Officials say there was never any threat to the school or students.
The whole ordeal left neighbors on edge.
"I saw a police car coming and he got out of the car as I was putting the garbage out. As soon as I saw them walking towards the woods, I ran inside because I knew they were looking for somebody," says a woman who works in the area.
Officials have not released a description of the driver of the Mercedes.
The other driver involved in the accident is said to have minor injuries.
