Orange County officials gathered yesterday to announce the 8th annual "Alert Cab" program to keep inebriated New Year's revelers safe and off the roads.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office, along with Dana Distributors, have partnered together to continue the program, which in the past has offered 500-600 free cab rides to those who need them.
The program allows a bartender to call a cab and take a person home with an envelope containing their car keys at no charge to the rider.
Officials say that they will be cracking down on drunken drivers, so they ask those who party on New Year's Eve to take advantage of the program and stay out of jail.
