Coyote sightings are on the rise in the city of Rye.
While coyote sightings in Rye are not uncommon, Rye police are encouraging residents to be vigilant because coyotes can carry rabies.
That's why Rye Police are giving these tips to avoid a Coyote encounter if you spot one…
  • NEVER approach a coyote
  • DON'T let your kids or pets run around freely if there is a sighting near your house
  • NEVER FEED a coyote (this includes pet food, bird feeders and even accessible garbage bins)
Most coyotes are not prone to attacking people. But if you do see a coyote, officials encourage you to be loud and aggressive to scare it away.
