A Floral Park man is one of two homeowners in the village allegedly scammed by a fake company called Top Line Masonry.

Police say the 31- and 25-year-old suspects who are accused in the incidents were using the fake names "David Young" and "Adam Turner."

Officials say their real names are John Francis McDonagh, who was born in Ireland and James Anthony Eugene Ward. Ward was born in the United Kingdom and has overstayed his visa, according to officials.

Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says there have been 31 home improvement scams this year by people traveling to the area.

“We call them the 'Gypsie's,' they come from all over the country and all over the world, especially this time of year," says Ryder.

News 12 was told the scammers falsely report damage to people's property and then damage it even further.

Mcdunnah and Ward allegedly damaged a chimney at one home and the roof of the second house.

Investigators say nine arrests have been made so far, and up to $239,000 has been lost in construction scams this year.
