Nassau police say a fire at a home on Froehlich Place quickly spread to the detached garage of a neighboring home Wednesday night.
Firefighters from both Elmont Fire Department and Malverne Fire Department worked together to get it under control. A firefighter on scene said it began in the front of the home and quickly moved to the back.
Officers say a 58-year-old man was inside the home at the time the fire began before being brought to safety. No injuries were reported.
The Nassau Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire appears to be accidentally caused by a downed power line on top of a shed.
