A fire inside a maintenance building in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District injured a worker Tuesday afternoon, Village of Mamaroneck police said.

The worker was taken to Westchester Medical Center with minor injuries.

Lt. Mark Gatta says the incident began with a report of a boiler explosion in the maintenance building – across the street from Mamaroneck Avenue School.

He said a small fire there was found and extinguished.

Investigators on the scene are attempting to determine if there was an explosion inside the building.

The incident has led to traffic delays on a busy stretch of Mamaroneck Avenue. Part of Gertude Avenue was blocked off as of 3 p.m.

Mamaroneck School District issued a statement to News 12:

"This afternoon, emergency personnel responded to a minor explosion of an oil tank in the district's garage depot across the street from Mamaroneck Ave. School. A number of roads have been closed in the vicinity of MAS, but we do not anticipate any impact on school operations for the remainder of today or tomorrow. There were no serious injuries; however, one staff member is being evaluated as a precautionary measure at a local hospital."
