An issue over license plates ends in a police pursuit in Yonkers and now, a search for the driver.

It happened around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers were trying to conduct a traffic stop on the Sprain Brook Parkway, according to Westchester County police. The attempted stop was over improper license plates, police tell News 12.

Police say the driver took off.

"It was pretty loud," says Hector Mendez, who works nearby.

Witnesses say the driver hit at least two cars before coming to a sudden stop at the corner of Alida Street and Yonkers Avenue.

"I saw a white car hit an SUV and a cop car chasing them and then, we heard them hit the building right next door," says Rebecca Turkel, who was getting her hair done nearby.

Police say the driver ran off. His identity hasn't been released.

The passenger was detained.

"It's a little scary, I live very close to the area so when things like that happen, it makes me kind of nervous," says Yonkers resident Alexa Krawec.

No one was seriously injured, according to police.
