Police in Poughkeepsie are looking for a suspect who fired shots in the direction of a school bus Thursday afternoon.
Authorities say the shots were fired blocks away from Poughkeepsie High School Forbus Street near Hammersley Avenue, but the children on board were elementary school students.
Investigators tell News 12 that it did not appear the bus was the target in this incident. They say at least seven shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Witnesses also told police they spotted a man in a hooded sweatshirt who ran from the scene.
Poughkeepsie City School District officials say they have support staff and resources in place to help the students who were on board.
