A Middletown man has been arrested for allegedly charging $7,500 in unauthorized purchases to the Bedford Hills Fire District.
Bedford police say Edward Johnson, 41, was charged with identity theft and grand larceny.
Johnson is not a member of the fire department. It's not yet known how he allegedly accessed the card.
Police say they began the investigation last December when the fire department discovered unauthorized charges.
Police went to stores where the charges were made and obtained surveillance video.
The purchases were for items such as clothing, food and gas.
Johnson was arraigned in town court and released on his own recognizance.
Police say Johnson has been arrested before in other jurisdictions for similar crimes.
