Orangetown police say a man left his infant son in the car in the freezing cold while he went shopping.
Police say on Saturday afternoon 40-year-old Paul Rutigliano, of Harrington Park, N.J., visited a Lowe's Home Improvement store on Route 303. They say he parked his Audi sedan and went inside, leaving behind his 10-month-old son in frigid 23-degree weather.
Police say the boy was wearing winter clothing, but Dr. Bruce Henry, a specialist in pediatric emergency medicine at Nyack Hospital, says leaving an infant in the cold is potentially dangerous. Authorities say the child was not hurt.
Rutigliano was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and is due back in Orangetown Justice Court on Feb. 18.
