A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Route 306 in the village of Wesley Hills early Thursday, police say.
According to authorities, at around 12:30 a.m. 55-year-old Martin Gluck had been struck by an unknown vehicle just moments after leaving a local Mobil gas station. The driver then fled the scene.
Gluck was found on the side of the road just north of Willow Tree Road and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A resident says many people walk along the stretch of Route 306 where Gluck was killed despite the fact there are no sidewalks.
At the time of the accident, Gluck was dressed in a black jacket and pants and was not wearing a reflective sash.
Ramapo Supervisor Chris St. Lawrence says thousands of the sashes have already been handed out to people in the community in an effort to reduce the numbers of deaths on the road.
