A man accused of pouring gasoline on a Poughkeepsie building Friday has been charged with attempted arson, according to police.

Authorities say they received a 911 call around 6:45 p.m. reporting that a man was refusing to leave an apartment on Rose Street.

They say he was observed pouring gasoline from a can onto the building before fleeing inside. Responding officers caught him holding a disposable lighter at the entrance.

Officers arrested the man and the building was evacuated. Police say the suspect faces multiple charges including attempted arson, attempted criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and burglary.
