A pit bull was caught on police body camera attacking officers in the Town of Red Hook last week.
Red Hook police say officers were dispatched to a home in the Forest Park development due to a call reporting an active neighbor dispute.
After separating the two parties, a dog charged at the officers while they attempted to return to their patrol vehicle.
One of the officers discharged his weapon to prevent the dog from biting a sergeant, according to authorities.
The dog was rushed to a local veterinarian hospital, where it died from its injuries.
The owners of the dog now face several charges from the DCSPCA, including having a dog at large and having an unlicensed, unregistered animal.
