New Rochelle police says it launched an investigation into what they said "seems to be an accidental discharge from a lawfully permitted gun" near the area of Palmer Avenue and Spencer Drive on Sunday.
Officials said no injuries were reported.
They emphasized that the incident appears to be an accident.
While News 12 was waiting to learn more as of Sunday evening, a crew captured video from the scene that showed officers carrying large cases out of a complex called Dorchester Gardens. The building is located at 2261 Palmer Ave.
News 12 crews also observed several police vehicles parked across the street from the building on Sunday afternoon.
Officers were also seen investigating two vehicles that were parked in a lot that was attached to the complex.
Resident Joe Eugene said he was inside of the building when he and his dogs heard two loud pops go off from a floor or an area above where they were located.
He said he now feels a bit disturbed and unsettled by what took place.
"You want to feel safe where you are, say if it came down one of my ceilings and hit me or one of my dogs, I would not be feeling good right now," Eugene said.
It was unclear as of Sunday evening if anyone was taken into custody as a result of the incident.
