Police are investigating a murder-suicide Tuesday that took place at 86 Old State Road in Fort Montgomery.

Police say 37-year-old Wilfredo Nieves Jr., a Port Authority officer, shot his wife, Debbie, to death and then turned the gun on himself Monday night. Police found the couple after responding to a domestic dispute call from the wife. According to police, the couple's four kids witnessed the incident and were spotted running from the home following the shots.

Neighbors say they heard popping sounds before police arrived. They say the couple was known to fight, but were very devoted parents.

The couple's kids are reportedly staying with their grandparents in Pennsylvania.
